Vanquis Bank High Yield Fixed Rate Bonds at 3.55%

Vanquis Bank, established by Provident Financial Group in 2002, is offering a different kind of high yield savings account. Called in the U.K. as a high yield fixed rate bond, it is offered in 1 and 2 year terms. Please see below Vanquis Bank’s rate schedule effective as of September 16, 2011:

1 Year High Yield Fixed Rate Bond

Annual – 3.20% gross/AER

Monthly – 3.15% gross

3.20% AER

2 Year High Yield Fixed Rate Bond

Annual -  3.55% gross/AER

Monthly – 3.49% gross

3.50% AER

AER stands for annual equivalent rate in the UK. Vanquis Bank is a credit card company based in the United Kingdom. It is an authorized bank and is regulated by UK’s Financial Services Authority.

Vanquis Bank High Yield Fixed Rate Bonds are available to U.K. residents only who are above the age of 18. Application can be done online which can be made quicker if you have everything handy:

1. Your bank account number and sort code if you will make your deposit by direct debit;

2. Your valid U.K. passport or a U.K. driver’s license; and

3. Your national insurance number, which is required if you claim gross interest as a non-taxpayer.

Please note that withdrawal from your high yield saving account or high yield fixed rate bond is not allowed during the term of your investment.

American Express High Yield Saving Account at 2.00%APY

American Express is offering a high yield saving account at 2.00%APY. This high yield saving account rate is accurate as of July 9, 2009 but is subject to change.

There are no minimums and online electronic transfers are free. Deposits are also FDIC insured up to the maximum amount permitted by law or up to $250,000.

American Express Bank however has only one star rating from Bankrate.com’s Safe & Sound rating system. This may be due to the fact that American Express Bank is just a newly established banking division of the popular credit card company, American Express.

Update: September 9, 2011

American Express high yield savings account is now only 1.00%APY. More than two years ago, American Express high yield savings account was at 2.00%APY, a difference of 1.00%APY. Unlike other banks, American Express high yield savings account has no fees to open and maintain with no minimum deposit amount. You can start with just a $1 and start earning interest. This is the type of account that most people are looking for, a no fee savings account.

American Express Bank has now a five (5) star (superior) rating from bankrate.com’s Safe and Sound rating system and deposits are also FDIC insured up to $250,000.

Community First Bank Online Savings Account at 4.01%APY

Community First Bank is offering an online savings account at 4.01%APY on balances up to $75,000 however it requires an e-Checking account. Only $50 is required to open both online savings account and e-Checking account.

All balances above $75, 000 will also earn a bonus rate of 2.00%APY which you’ll receive only when you perform the following on your e-Checking Account:

1. You must use your debit card 15 times each month (excludes ATM transactions);
2. You must sign up for direct deposit or direct debit on your e-Checking account; and
3. Receive e-statements on both e-savings and e-checking accounts.

The benefits you’ll get with the e-Checking Account are no service charge, no minimum balance, free debit card, free online banking, free billpay, free e-statement. The online savings account however will give you high interest, no service charge, free online transfers, free security link to e-checking and free electronic statement.

Darby Direct high yield online saving account at 3.00%APY

Darby Direct, an online banking arm of Darby Bank and Trust Co., is offering a high yield online saving account at 3.00%APY.

Just like most banks offering a high yield online savings account, Darby Direct offers the account with no minimum balance requirement and no monthly fee. The high yield saving account rate offered is accurate as of November last year but may change without notice. Deposits with Darby Direct are FDIC insured.

Depositors has to come up with $1 only to open the account. The high yield saving account rate offer is available to personal accounts opened online only.

Update: March 29, 2011:

Darby Direct is now Ameris Bank and now offers personal and business internet banking.
